PROGRAM GOALS AND GUIDELINES
Children with Aloha Academy uses The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool by Teaching Strategies, proven to be a comprehensive research-based curriculum that features exploration and discovery. A rich learning environment is developed in the classroom as children and teachers engage in meaningful conversations, stories, singing, creative activities and play that engage the child. Each day is specifically balanced to provide teacher and child-centered experiences which lead to group and individual hands on exploration. Children will find success as they develop physically, linguistically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally.
Vocabulary: Theme topics such as The Five Senses, A Look at Hawaii, Prehistoric Animals, Air and Sea Transportation, and Around the Neighborhood provide a topic base in which children will be taught varying vocabulary and concepts.
Physical Health: Daily activities with emphasis on personal hygiene and healthy habits, including toilet training and washing hands, education on nutrition through the provision of healthy foods, dance and yoga.
Intellectual Development: Daily activities in art, music, reading, puzzles, and interactive playing games, painting with finger/brushes, playing with play-dough, etc.
Gross motor skills: Continued development of gross motor skills is taught through physical education lessons involving a variety of skills that allow children to move their bodies and participate in games.
Written and Numeracy Skills: Through exposure to sight words in a variety of activities, students will be able to use this knowledge to further develop their writing skills as the year progresses. Basic numeracy skills will also be expanded upon, and include concepts such as basic measurement and more complex pattern building.
